Whitby's Future

WHITBY FOCUSES ON NEW HOSPITAL

Council Meeting Sept 25th/06

"We certainly have land available,we certainly have the population growth and we certainly have the drive to make this work,"Councillor Gerry Emm said.

"The people who will make this work are all here...and I think by the time all the ink is dried on the paper...the need will be greater than what it is now. We know the need is current, it has been a couple of years. It will take a little while to get it all through but we have to start now."

A Taxing Issue

Gerry continues to voice concerns at government forums, focusing on complicated cost issues and downloading, also governing your tax dollars to Whitby’s best interest!

A recent comparison on the local portion of municipal property assessed at $278,000. Shows Whitby is comparable or lower to other Durham local municipalities.

CAN TAXES BE CONTROLLED WITH DOWNLOADING COSTS?

Transportation, user fees, day care, bus service, road maintenance and construction, personal care for people in need are a few of the services being affected. Gerry understands these complex issues and with his many years of experience will work diligently to protect the future of the citizens of Whitby.

'Strong Budget principals are required' says Gerry Emm

A persistent effort will still have to be undertaken to expand our non-residential tax base. The completion of HWY 407 will open up lands for industrial/business and job opportunities. This continues to be a priority for Gerry Emm.
